This
young swimmer achieved so much during the past season that I
found it difficult to put together all of her accolades as
it "boggled" my mind.

The highlight of this young gentleman's
swimming career was being selected to represent South Africa
at the Paralympics in Beijing in 2008.
After a world record in the 100m Breaststroke in a time of
1.08.58 he suffered a groin injury and was not able to
continue at record breaking speed.
His awards to date are impressive and well deserved. In 2008
he received:-
- The Mandela Award
- Citizen of the
Year Award
- the Mayor's Award
- East Cape Premiers Award
- Disabled Sportsman of the Year.
- In April at the SASAPD
Championships held at Gelvandale, Port Elizabeth, his
world record breaking stint continued when he notched up
another 2 world records, 5 gold medals and 1 silver
medal.
- At Senior Nationals in
Durban he was not satisfied with breaking the world
record in the 50m breaststroke during the heats in a
time of 31.51 but continued to improved his time and
record in a time of 31.16
- Two weeks after Senior
Nationals we bid him farewell and good luck as he
continues on his travels, this time to compete at the
Paralympics World Cup in Manchester.
He not only wins the Eastern Province
Aquatics Executive Trophy for the Multi-Disability Athlete
of the Year but also the Burrell Trophy for the Eastern
Province Swimmer of the Year.
