Swimming

One of the most difficult challenges in any competitive environment is to continue to improve on any past achievements, and to be ready for any new challenges that will emerge with a new season. Unfortunately, too many athletes see a new season as a complete new beginning, rather than to see this as a continuation of the achievement of the past. The approach to a new season may differ from one individual to another, but what is essential, is to set goals and milestones prior to any season. This will ensure that an athlete can stay focussed and be competitive right away.

We have put together an exciting programme that will strengthen the quality of performances at all levels. This will enable us to deliver the necessary standard of athlete to be competitive on a national and international basis.

Junior Swimmer of the Year 2009

- Jessica Liss -

Jessica LissThis young swimmer achieved so much during the past season that I found it difficult to put together all of her accolades as it "boggled" my mind.

Represented South Africa

  1. at the Commonwealth Youth Games in India and was the only South African female to bring home a medal (Bronze in the 200m Breaststroke).
  2. 6th African Swimming Championships, where she was awarded her full South African colours, won 2 gold medals (200m Breaststroke and 200m Medley Relay and silver in the 100m Breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley.

  2. Was awarded the Victrix Ludorum and Top Individual Performance awards.

Level 3

  1. Swam 8 individual events and won 8 gold medals.
  2. At the SSA Awards Evening in Johannesburg, she received an award
  3. "Special Mention - Most Promising Athlete in South Africa"

On the local scene she continued to rewrite the records book which included 12 South African Age Group records and 4 South African Schools records - Eastern Province records too many to mention.

She was awarded the Eastern Cape Premiers Sports Award and named 'Runner Up' Eastern Cape Sportswoman of the Year.

This young lady rightfully deserves the honour of being named the Eastern Province Junior Swimmer of the Year.

Senior & Multi-Disability Swimmer of the Year 2009

- Kevin Paul -

The highlight of this young gentleman's swimming career was being selected to represent South Africa at the Paralympics in Beijing in 2008.Kevin Paul and former President Nelson Mandela

After a world record in the 100m Breaststroke in a time of 1.08.58 he suffered a groin injury and was not able to continue at record breaking speed.

His awards to date are impressive and well deserved. In 2008 he received:-

  1. The Mandela Award
  2. Citizen of the Year Award
  3. the Mayor's Award
  4. East Cape Premiers Award - Disabled Sportsman of the Year.
  5. In April at the SASAPD Championships held at Gelvandale, Port Elizabeth, his world record breaking stint continued when he notched up another 2 world records, 5 gold medals and 1 silver medal.
  6. At Senior Nationals in Durban he was not satisfied with breaking the world record in the 50m breaststroke during the heats in a time of 31.51 but continued to improved his time and record in a time of 31.16
  7. Two weeks after Senior Nationals we bid him farewell and good luck as he continues on his travels, this time to compete at the Paralympics World Cup in Manchester.

He not only wins the Eastern Province Aquatics Executive Trophy for the Multi-Disability Athlete of the Year but also the Burrell Trophy for the Eastern Province Swimmer of the Year.
