ROTARY'S CAMPAIGN TO END POLIO.
Yes, not only is Port Elizabeth renowned for its friendliness, but its kindness should never be underestimated! 
The City now has the golden opportunity to participate in the WORLD WIDE RotaryGlobalSwimarathon.
To bring you in the picture, the past 22 years have seen the Rotary Club of Grantham, England hold a highly successful "RotarySwimarathon" raising over £500,000 for local charities and deserving causes.
In 2012 they are holding an extra event - this will be in the form of a Rotary Global Swimarathon - setting a new World Record for the most number of people swimming at the same time anywhere in the world (the number presently stands at 2533). Through this exciting event, Rotary aims to raise funds towards Rotary International worldwide project to eradicate Polio.

SSA announces 200 IM Participation Rules 19.01.2012
The revised participation ruling re the 200im for Level 2 and Level 3 was to make it easier, to qualify, the first publication will also apply, so swimmers can qualify on either.

9th Junior African Swimming Championships
The EPA Executive Committee, coaches, parents and athletes would like to congratulate Christopher Reid (Aquabear Swim Club) on being made CAPTAIN o the SA Junior Team.
The SA Swimmers are currently taking part in the 9th Junior African Swimming Championships, held in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
What an honour and we are all very proud of you as you represent our Country, Province and Club.

Uitenhage Club Gala
Please be advised that the UITENHAGE CLUB GALA (scheduled for 29th October 2011) has been postponed.
The Uitenhage Club will be celebrating their 75th Year and they intend to have their gala on 3rd March 2012 in Uitenhage.

Aquabear 40th Invitational Meet 1 - 4 October 2011 - Port Elizabeth
The Aquabear Invitational Meet will be held at the Newton Park Pool Complex.
The facility is a heated and indoor 50m rim flow pool with 8 lanes and touch pads at both ends of the pool.
There will be twelve sessions of swimming, three per day as detailed in the swimming programme.

Rok Solid Bell Buoy Swim
Slovenian open-water swimming champion Rok Kerin showed his class when he won the Bell Buoy Challenge in cold and choppy co
nditions at the Nelson Mandela Bay Splash Festival in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
Kerin (27) - who grabbed victory in the 3km event at the aQuelle Midmar Mile in February - used his strong navigational skills in an eight-kilometre race of attrition that saw him claim the R10 000 first prize with ease in 1:38:34.
Top Durban lifesaver Luke Nisbet (25) completed the swim from Hobie Beach in 1:47:26 to finish runner-up for the second year in a row. PE's Michael Marais (18) rounded out the podium in 1:57:48.

Day 04 of the Telkom SA National Senior and Youth Swimming Championships
The ladies stole the show on the fourth day of the Telkom SA National
Senior and Youth Championships in Port Elizabeth when Pretoria-based Vanessa Mohr sped to a FINA World Championships qualifying time in the 100m butterfly followed by Wendy Trott's phenomenal performance in the 800m freestyle, swimming over five seconds faster than the set qualification time.
Mohr's early lead continued throughout the race and she touched the wall with a time of 58.93, followed by Mandy Loots in 1:00.15 and Marne Erasmus in 1:02.00.
Trott added to her A qualification of the 1500m freestyle achieved on the second night of the competition, when she finished in 8:30.66 ahead of Roxanne Tammange (8:44.89) and Jessica Pengelly (8:46.16) in the 800 freestyle.

Day 03 of the Telkom SA National Senior and Youth Swimming Championships
Roland Schoeman's brilliant A qualifying time of 23.47 in the 50m
butterfly and Cameron van der Burgh's 1:00.29 in the 100m breaststroke had the spectators on their feet at the Newton Park Swimming Pool in Port Elizabeth on the third day of the Telkom SA National Senior and Youth Swimming Championships tonight.
Graeme Moore claimed the silver in 24.23 with Neil Watson taking the bronze in 24.30 in the 50m butterfly while Giulio Zorzi (1:03.09) and Rory Buck (1:03.11) took the silver and bronze in the 100m breaststroke respectively.
It will be a thrilling final tomorrow in the 100m freestyle as Graeme Moore and Gideon Louw battle it out for the top spot. Moore finished with a superb 48.80 ahead of Louw's time of 49.02 in tonight's semi-finals, both under the 49.23 qualification time for Shanghai.

Pretoria-based Gerhard Zandberg booked his place to the FINA Wo
rld Championships in Shanghai when he sprinted to a golden 24.90 in the 50m backstroke final on the second day of the Telkom SA National Senior and Youth Swimming Championships at the Newton Park Swimming Pool in Port Elizabeth tonight.
Charl Crous finished with the silver in 25.53 and Darren Murray with the bronze in 25.84.
Another qualification time was achieved by Wendy Trott and 14 year old Michelle Weber as they raced to the gold and silver in the 1500m freestyle in 16:22.57 and 16.36.76 respectively, securing their place to Shanghai within the set time of 16:41.49.

Day 01 of the Telkom SA National Swimming Championships
SA swim star, Chad le Clos clocked an A qualifying time for the FINA World
Championships in Shanghai when he produced a sparkling performance on the opening night of the Telkom SA National Swimming Championships in Port Elizabeth tonight, Monday, 11th April 2011.
Le Clos came from behind to take the 200m butterfly title in 1:57.20. The 18 year old was trailing behind Sebastien Rousseau but overtook him in the final sprint and Rousseau ended with the silver in 1:57.95, with Dylan Bosch grabbing a bronze in 1:59.21.

Whose leading the in the Ocean Racing Series Season 6?
Herewith the overall Series results for Season 6 as they stand after 8 race days.
Results are determined from your best 8 times over the 10 possible race days (in other words your 2 worst times will be dropped). Only participants who have taken part in at least 6 of the 10 races qualify for the overall standings. In the event of participants ending the Series with the same overall points (ie: a tie), there will be a count back on the best positions achieved during the Series to determine who gets the better position

Michael Marais Moves into the Overall Lead
EP Swimmer, Michael Marais, was back to winning form at Sunday's 8th round of the Weekend Post Ocean Racing Series, claiming line honours in the Dis-Chem 3km Ocean Swim from Raynard Tissink and Hanre Barnard. Held in ideal beach conditions, Round 8 was well attended by families who enjoyed some exciting competition. Marais' win in the 3km swim catapults him into the overall Series lead with just two rounds remaining in the Series.
Heading the ladies challenge is young Chrislie Niehaus who won the 3km ladies swim from Sanmari Woite and Series newcomer Marille Roux. In the 1km Ocean Swim it was Jason Jones and Carmel Billson who took line honours
