Kevin Paul
Being named the Eastern Cape Sportsperson of the year for 2
successive years and the SA disabled Sports
Star of the year is no mean feat in any man's language.
This young NMMU law student has once again proved his metal with
accolades such as representing south Africa at the Paralympic World Cup
in Manchester in May last year bringing back gold and a
new world record in the 100m
breaststroke in a time of 1.08.29 seconds.
At the Nedbank Championships in Port Elizabeth at the end of March he
was not satisfied with just a gold medal - he earned himself
6 gold medals and another
world record in the 50m breaststroke.
He has also produced 5 qualifying times for World Champs which took
place in Holland during August.

Junior Swimmer of the Year
Christopher Reid
This swimmer was described as "The New Kid on the Block".
Yes he is now on the block breaking more records like there is no
tomorrow...........
This season the following achievements can be attributed to dedication and
hard work.
With 35 Eastern Province Age Group
records and 8 South African Age Group
records under the belt.
At the Level 3 National Gala which took
place in East London he won 9 gold medals
and was the top scorer nationally in all age groups Male and Female.
At the Aquabear Club Mini Gala he was crowned the top performer and also the
Victor Ludorum.
His first year at High School he travelled to Bloemfontein to participate at
SA High Schools. He swam 4 events and walked off with
3 gold medals in the 14 year age group
and a silver medal in the 16 and under age group. He also broke
2 South African High School records in
the 14 year age group.
He qualified for Senior Nationals at the age of 13 and, although not delving
into the archived to verify this, it is recorded that he is the youngest
Eastern Province male to participate at the Senior National Championships.
This being his first Nationals he managed to qualify for the 200m Backstroke
final and took 7th place.
Christopher rightfully deserves the honour of being named Eastern Province
Junior Swimmer of the Year 2010.
