EP Swimmers record fast times

Grey High School's top swimmer, 16 year old Chris van de Sande, led the way this weekend to win the 5km open water swim at the second round of the Eastern Cape Swim Series, recording a fast time of just over 1hr and 1min which should put him in the top 10 in the country this year.

Held at the picturesque Marina Martinique, van de Sande was a clear leader in the 5km swim with fellow Grey High scholars Byron Lockett and Michael Marais placing second and third respectively with Collegiate scholar Jessica Roux placing 4th overall to win the ladies title from 5th placed Rebecca Newman. The top 7 swimmers in the 5km event all finished within the SA qualifying time of 1 hour and 15 min.

In the 3km swim it was Andrew Fisher who placed 1st ahead of Wayne Jones and Aaron Myburgh whilst the ladies 3km race was won by Genna Greevelink from Charmaine Horton and Chrislie-Thandi Niehaus. A 1km fun swim was won by Dominic Greeff with Jason and Daniel Jones placing second and third respectively. In the ladies 1km race it was Christie Vaughan from Chane and Caro de Jager.

The next race in the East Cape open water swim Series will take place on Wednesday the 23rd December and will include a 1.5km swim, 3km swim and a 500m swim for the youngsters.
