Ocean series a great hit in PE

Over 550 participants packed Hobie Beach for the ninth round of the Axxess DSL Ocean Racing Series in perfect beach conditions on Sunday morning. With the bulk of the participants taking part in either of the two swim events, it was an absolute magnificent promotion for Nelson Mandela Bay's bid to be Africa's water sport capital.

EP's top long distance open water swimmers, Frank Greeff and Jessica Roux, once again dominated the Crocs 3km swim while Chris van de Sande and Carmel Billson extended their overall leads in the SPAR 1km Ocean Swim, throwning down the gauntlet for what promises to be a very exciting and close tussle for the line honours at the 86th SPAR Redhouse River Mile in just under two weeks time.

Once again the kids turned out en-masse at the Ocean Racing Series to take part in the Beachfront Lodges 2km Nature Series beach run with all proceeds going towards Bay World. Kids were later entertained on the beach by Bay World staff who spoke about whales in Algoa Bay and brought with them some of their penguins for all to see.

The next race of the Series will take place in three weeks' time on Sunday, March 7 as the Series makes way for the annual SPAR Redhouse River Mile which takes place over the weekend of March 27-28 at Sundays River.
