Take your marks……Go…….for the Marina Mile
It’s time to dust off your swim goggles and head to
Marina Martinique for the 2009 Kouga Express Mile swim. Visiting
and local swimmers are all hard at training for the event which takes
place on 23 December at the car park where the Walskipper restaurant is
situated.
The Kouga Swim Club is hosting the event in partnership with Zports, who
also manage the Axxess DSL Ocean Racing Series. Visitors are welcome to
join in the Club’s training sessions and more information can be
obtained from
www.kougaswimclub.com or phone Brenton Williams on 0835496795.
The Club is focusing its training on open water swimming during December
in preparation for the Marina Mile and the swim events in ST Francis
Bay. Many of the Club’s swimmers will also be heading down to
Plettenberg Bay on 27 December for the Sabrina Love 6 K sea swim.
For the first time in the history of the Marina Mile, a 5 K beach run
has been included in the list of activities for the day. The run
starts at 11am and registration ends at 10.30am. The run is being
organized by the Jeffreys Bay Athletics Club in conjunction with the
Kouga Swim Club.
Michael Marais and Jessica Roux the reigning Marina Martinique 3K
champions will be back in Jeffreys Bay to defend their titles. The
3 K swim is now regarded as the entry level open water swim distance
with the gruelling 10 K swim being an Olympic Games event.
Young swimmers will also be catered for at the Marina Mile with a 100 m
bank to bank swim taking place to encourage the youngsters to overcome
the fear of swimming in open water. Entry is free for this event.
The 500 m swim is aimed at all swimmers who feel that they are not yet
ready to complete the mile swim.
The main events, the women’s and men’s Mile starts at 11am and 12 pm
respectively. Entries close half an hour before each event.
Online entries can be done online at

Invitation to Water polo referees course
The EP Water polo board are pleased to advise that
we are presenting a referees course on Saturday 5 December 2009 at Grey
high School, College Drive, Port Elizabeth.
This is in keeping with the boards vision to raise the standard in all
spheres of our polo in the Province.
If you are a player or a coach (Prem players too!!) and would like to
get more of a handle on the interpretation of the rules or a parent that
would like to understand the game better or someone that would like to
ref the game then you need to attend this course.
We as a province are certainly looking for more qualified refs to help
at the many different leagues that are running at present. So please do
encourage participation from your club, team or school. It will be
presented by Paul Goosen who is a FINA approved referee and one of the
top refs in the country.
The course will include a detailed look at the latest rules, videos and
practical implementation. This will certainly prove to be useful to
those off to SA schools and SAU shortly.
Date: 5 December 2009
Venue: The Pavilion - Grey High School - Port Elizabeth
Time: 09h30 to 15h00 – 2 sessions Cost: R30 per delegate (including rule
