Learn to Swim Program Standards

The Water Safety Education program is funded by the Department of Water Affairs & Forestry. We therefore need to improve on delivery and reporting standards. This process also needs to be uniform throughout the country. I therefore appeal to you to take special note of the attachments that outline training of volunteers and reporting on schools visited.

A programme outline is attached for the training of Community Volunteers with presentation skills and Water Safety knowledge.

The strategy as agreed at our annual workshop dictates:

1. that we recruit unemployed youth and train them with presentation skills.

2. that the trained Presenters visit schools and report to the PLO.

3. that the Provincial Liaison Officer of SSA manage this process with follow-up calls to schools to establish whether the Principal & Staff are happy.

4. the Volunteer be kitted with corporate gear for easy identification on arrival at the school.

The following documents will complete the report to SSA & DWAF:

1. Attendance Register of Volunteers who attend the TrainingWorkshop

2. Official SSA Report form submitted after a school visit

3. Number of posters handed out at each school

4. Report any radio; TV or media interviews that you may have had.

There can be no compromise on recruiting, training and reporting standards. All interventions and co-ordination of this programme is management by the SSA Provincial Liaison Officer in each Province.
