Instructors Registration

 

Herewith a brief to assist with the Registration of Swimming Instructors 

 1. Instructors must complete the SSA form provided for member registrations

2. Registrations must be done at the SSA Provincial Office

3.The Registration Fee is R165.00 for the year.

4. The Instructor is required to produce certified copies of:

a) SSA ‘Learn to Swim’ Instructor Certificate

b) Identity Document

c) Current CPR Certificate (this is renewable every year)


5. The Instructors details must then be forwarded to the Instructors’ Provincial Technical Committee

6. The annual registration keeps the Instructor’s accreditation current

7. Accreditation, Registration & Insurance is a legal requirement for all practitioners

    IMPORTANT NOTE:  

1. A Swimming Instructor does not have to be a member of a Swimming Club to be eligible for membership of Swimming South Africa.

2. Swimming Instructors must renew their membership each year, on the 1st May.

3. Swimming Instructors need to engage in the continuous professional development programme conducted by the Provincial Technical Committee.

4. It is the Instructors responsibility to ensure that he/she receives contact detail of the Technical Committee Members from the SSA Provincial Office.

5. It is the Instructors responsibility to ensure that the Technical Committee does have his/her membership details

6. Swimming Instructors are required to apply for a renewal of their accreditation after four years; this is automatic through the achievement of 30 points from attending workshops in the ‘Professional Development Programme’ organised by the Provincial Technical Committee.

7. Members Insurance Cover includes Personal Accident and Public Liability Cover

8. Professional Indemnity ‘housed’ under SSA insurance portfolio is a personal option discussed and provided on request

9. Income Protection Cover and it cost is currently under discussion with the Brokers.

10. Arrangements are being made to provide members with a Members’ Registration Certificate and an Insurance Cover Certificate to add public confidence to the swimming operation conducted by SSA Swimming Instructors. These, are currently, not available.

Swim School Accreditation Applications

 

Herewith the procedure to deal with the above applications:

1. This accreditation is renewable every three years.

2. Centre Accreditation is acknowledge through the issue of an SSA Plaque.

3. The relevant SSA form must be completed and submitted with the following; a) R500.00 non-refundable fee b). LTS Instructor’s SSA Registration Certificate

4. The applicant must then be given a ‘Public Standards Assurance’ Checklist and the contact numbers for the Provincial Technical Committee.

5. The applicant must be advised to meet all standards required as listed and then call the Provincial Technical Committee to inspect the respective facility and documentation.

6. The Provincial Technical Committee Inspector on completion of inspection will advise the applicant of the status.

7. In the event of standards not being met; the applicant is entitled to correct the situation and request a second inspection and a third inspection.

8. Should the applicant be dissatisfied with the Inspectors’ Report; the applicant may request a second opinion from another Inspector duly appointed by the Provincial Technical Committee.

9. The approved Checklist must be signed and returned to the office of the SSA Provincial Affiliate who will forward application and approved safety checklist, with the fee, to Head Office for further processing.

10. This accreditation gives assurance to the public of a professional and safe operation.

11. The ‘Centre Accreditation safety requirements gives support to ‘Duty of Care’ for clients/learners and is an Insurance Cover pre-requisite.

12. In respect of Municipal/Public Facilities, accreditation will be considered within the context of a Memorandum of Agreement between Swimming South Africa and the said Municipality.

13. All of the above standards and applications will relate to Insurance Cover.

Breakdown of Centre Accreditation fee contribution:

SSA R350.00

Provincial Affiliate R 25.00

Provincial Technical Committee R125.00

TOTAL R500.00 (every three years)
